The haveli was the same.

But something had changed.

Not outsideโ€ฆ

Inside.

Between Veer and Anika.

Anika sat on the edge of the bed, staring at nothing in particular.

Her mind replayed his words again and again.

โ€œTum meri responsibility ho.โ€

She let out a bitter laugh.

โ€œGreat,โ€ she whispered to herself.

โ€œAb main insaan se seedha responsibility ban gayi hoon.โ€

Her fingers tightened around the edge of her dupatta.

โ€œMain koi bojh nahi hoonโ€ฆโ€ she muttered.

But why did it hurt so much?

On the other side of the haveliโ€”

Veer stood near the window, arms crossed, jaw tight.

His mind wasnโ€™t calm either.

Her words echoed in his head.

โ€œAap control kar rahe ho.โ€

He exhaled sharply.

โ€œControl?โ€ he murmured.

He ran a hand through his hair, frustrated.

โ€œGalat nahi tha mainโ€ฆโ€ he said under his breath.

โ€œParโ€ฆ shayad tareeka galat tha.โ€

For a moment, his expression softened.

But only for a moment.

The dining area was filled with family.

Voices. Conversations. Normalcy.

Exceptโ€”

Anika sat quietly, eyes on her plate.

Veer sat across from her.

Not once did their eyes meet.

Not once.

โ€œAnika beta, sab theek hai na?โ€ one of the elders asked gently.

She forced a small smile.

โ€œJiโ€ฆ bilkul.โ€

At the same timeโ€”

โ€œBilkul.โ€

Veerโ€™s voice overlapped with hers.

Both stopped.

A brief glance.

Then both looked away instantly.

The table fell silent for a second.

Then someone chuckled awkwardly.

โ€œLagta hai nayi shaadi ka sharmana abhi tak gaya nahi.โ€

Anika clenched her jaw slightly.

Veer didnโ€™t react.

And somehowโ€”

That silence felt worse than the argument.

Later that eveningโ€ฆ

Anika stepped outside, needing some air.

The cool breeze hit her face.

For a second, she closed her eyes.

Peace.

โ€œPhir se soch mein doobi hui ho?โ€

She opened her eyes.

Arjun.

She sighed. โ€œTum har jagah kaise aa jaate ho?โ€

He grinned. โ€œTalent hai.โ€

Anika couldnโ€™t help but smile slightly.

โ€œRelax ho jao,โ€ he said. โ€œItna serious rehna sehat ke liye theek nahi hota.โ€

โ€œTum doctor ho?โ€ she shot back.

โ€œNahiโ€ฆ par observation strong hai.โ€

From a distanceโ€”

Veer saw them.

Again.

Talking.

Smiling.

This timeโ€”

He didnโ€™t move.

Didnโ€™t interrupt.

Didnโ€™t react.

He just turnedโ€ฆ and walked away.

Anika noticed.

And something inside herโ€ฆ shifted.

โ€œAb problem nahi hai?โ€ she whispered under her breath.

Weird.

Why did that bother her?

The night was quiet.

Too quiet.

Suddenlyโ€”

The lights went out.

Darkness.

Anika froze for a second.

โ€œSeriously?โ€ she muttered.

She wasnโ€™t scared.

Not really.

Justโ€ฆ uncomfortable.

New place. New room. New everything.

A faint light appeared near the door.

She turned.

Veer.

Holding a small diya.

The soft glow lit his face.

He placed it on the table without saying a word.

Silence.

โ€œDar lag raha hai?โ€ he asked calmly.

Anika crossed her arms.

โ€œNahi.โ€

A pause.

โ€œJhoot bolna aata nahi tumhe,โ€ he said quietly.

She looked at him.

For a secondโ€”

No anger.

No ego.

Justโ€ฆ something softer.

โ€œMain theek hoon,โ€ she said, this time a little more gently.

Veer nodded slightly.

โ€œGood.โ€

He turned to leave.

โ€œVeerโ€ฆโ€

He stopped.

But didnโ€™t turn.

Anika hesitated.

Words stuck somewhere between her egoโ€ฆ and her heart.

โ€œโ€ฆkuch nahi,โ€ she said finally.

A small pause.

Then Veer spoke.

Without looking at her.

โ€œMain tumhe control nahi kar raha, Anikaโ€ฆโ€

Her eyes flickered.

โ€œโ€ฆpar main tumhe akela bhi nahi chhodunga.โ€

And thenโ€”

He walked away.

Anika stood there.

Still.

Silent.

Confused.

For the first timeโ€”

The fight didnโ€™t feel like just anger anymore.

It felt like something deeper.

Something neither of them was ready to accept.

Because this wasnโ€™t just a clash anymoreโ€ฆ

It was the beginning of understanding.

And maybeโ€”

Something more dangerous than hate.
